Audio Recording with Audio Hijack: Only Midi Sound

Postby cric on Sat Dec 13, 2008 4:31 am

Hi
I tried record the sonicmood output with Audio Hijack but all I get are the midi instruments. I don't want to record system audio but directly hijack Sonic Mood. As it seems this doesn't work (system sound does). Does anybody know why I can't just record sonicmood with audio hijack?
Isn't the audio file audio stream coming from sonicmood directly?

Hi,
You can record both if you set Audio Hijack Pro's Input to "System Audio" rather than trying to get SonicMood directly. The method SonicMood uses to output MIDI is different from its "audio file" output (the MIDI isn't recorded, but is generated by SonicMood "on the fly").

Hi John
Thanks for the information, but capturing all System Audio is exactly what I don't want to do. I want to record all audio from Sonic Mood but nothing else. As I run SM about 1-2 hours to record, other Apps certainly will send audio notifications during that time and these will also be recorded. The last time, I just recorded during night, and have shut down all other apps, but this isn't a real solution, as I want to record the audio when I am working (and probably make some adjustments during recording).
Is there any solution to this and/or will there be a feature added in future versions, to directly render the audio out to disk?

btw: MIDI is recorded when hijacking SM but not the Audio Files.

Hi cric,

I just tried this and it seems to work. I just learned something new, thanks to your question! :)

Set up SonicMood as the "Audio Source" in Hijack Pro (Source Type "Application"). With SonicMood selected as the source, on the "Input" tab, click the "Advanced..." button. Now select "Hijack all audio streams (MegaMix)." Click "OK".

Now you should be able to record both the MIDI and the soundfiles (recorded audio), but not also wind up recording the system beeps, etc.

In the future I plan to add a direct output to iTunes, but that won't happen for a while yet. Using Audio Hijack Pro with the "Hijack all audio streams" seems to work fine for now, though.

Cheers,
John

Hi Chris,

You're welcome! :)

I need to update our web site with this new info. Using that "advanced" setting of "Hijack all audio streams" works much better than what I'd posted on the web site! Thanks for asking about it!

Cheers,
John

Just a quick note: with audio hijack you can also enhance your audio (without recording), so this app may also only be used for geting the best audio experience out of SM by adding filters (e.g. reverb, equalizer, compressor, ...). That way you don't need any additional 3rd party tool like "hear" (even this one works out of the box).

Hi Chris,

I didn't know that, thanks! I'll have to try it :)
